Hale Kalele / Hale Hilinai

Albert C. Kobayashi, Inc.

Hale Kalele/Hale Hilinai was developed through a public-private partnership with the State of Hawaii Judiciary and the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation. The project transformed an underutilized state land parcel into an innovative mixed-use development featuring an affordable rental tower (Hale Kalele), juvenile services center and shelter (Hale Hilinai), and six-story parking garage. The unique mixed-use project addresses two of the state's most pressing needs: affordable housing and juvenile justice services for at-risk youth.

Rotary Wing Parking Apron (Wheeler Army Airfield – Phase 1)

Kiewit Infrastructure West Co.

The Rotary Wing Parking Apron project covered an area of 16 acres and involved the construction of a 90,000 SY apron using 19,000 CY of USACE-specification airfield concrete. Kiewit completed all work ahead of schedule and with zero impacts to the adjacent active airfield.

Kolekole Bridge Repairs 

Kiewit Infrastructure West Co.

The Kolekole Bridge Repairs Project on Mamalahoa Highway in Honomu on Hawaii Island was successfully completed in July 2022, restoring connectivity for the community. Despite challenges related to heavy rainfall, restricted loading, and working at heights, the project team quickly adapted to changes and developed plans to keep the project progressing and ultimately delivered this critical piece of infrastructure to the community on schedule and within budget.

Hamakua Energy Cooling Tower

Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company

Hamakua Energy needed to renovate three cooling towers to continue daily operations producing energy for the Big Island. The 60MW combined-cycle power generation facility in Honoka'a provides 22 percent of the island's generating capacity. The cooling towers could not be deactivated while the project was in process. This project was executed in the shortest possible schedule without impacting daily operations. Hawaiian Dredging built new cooling towers with more durable materials, providing higher cooling efficiencies.

Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Ocean Outfall Shoreline Revetment

Healy Tibbitts Builders

Healy Tibbitts successfully constructed the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Ocean Outfall Shoreline Revetment Project for the City to provide vital protection for the critical 84" outfall pipeline exposed to increasing erosion due to sea level rise. Healy Tibbitt's innovation overcame many challenges of working in the dynamic shoreline marine environment to provide the City with a durable protective stone revetment structure.

Grand Wailea Botero Lounge and Grand Dining Renovation

Hensel Phelps Construction Company

Hensel Phelps' renovation of the Grand Wailea's Botero Lounge and Grand Dining areas involved selective demolition and repairs to the resort's flooring system, statue bases, ceilings, bars and banquets, planters and landscaping, lighting, audiovisual and fire alarm systems, foodservice equipment, and other finishes. Hensel Phelps worked through procurement delays, changing site conditions, complex active resort logistics, and other challenges to deliver a quality project that exceeded the client’s expectations.

Līlia Waikīkī 

Nordic PCL Construction

The first high-rise rental condominium built in Waikīkī in decades, Līlia Waikīkī is a dynamic, mixed-use residential community developed through a 65-year ground lease with Queen Emma Land Company. The 28-story, 285-foot tower includes 401 market-rate and affordable rental units and is anchored by Waikīkī's only locally owned, full-service grocery store along with other curated retail tenants fronting the bustling Kūhiō Avenue.

Temporary & Permanent Repairs of Waimea Swinging Bridge, Tower #1

Kaikor Construction Group

Located about a mile inland from the main highway is the iconic Waimea Swinging Bridge. At 245 feet long, this cable and wood suspension bridge is not only a tourist attraction, but the only consistent access for locals who live and work in the valley. After receiving near catastrophic damage due to a rockslide, the County of Kauai called Kaikor Construction Group to facilitate the emergency repairs that would save and restore this historic structure.

Replace Arizona Memorial Shoreside Dock and Mooring System

Sea Engineering, Inc.

Sea Engineering, Inc. served as a Prime Subcontractor to Hawk Contracting Group to replace the Arizona Memorial shoreside dock and mooring system. The project included the replacement of the existing concrete floating dock and access gangways with an innovative shore based strut mooring system. The effort culminated in a high capacity, high strength floating dock designed to provide visitors safe transportation to the memorial for decades to come.

Honolulu Harbor Maintenance Dredging by Healy Tibbitts Builders, Inc.

Healy Tibbitts Builders, Inc.

Healy Tibbitts successfully completed the Honolulu Harbor Maintenance Dredging project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to restore the vital entrance and inner harbor navigation channels to their designed depths. Healy Tibbitt's innovation overcame many challenges of working in the busy harbor and the offshore entrance channel exposed to adverse weather and sea state conditions to complete the dredging and provide safe access to Honolulu Harbor port facilities for future vessel traffic.

Dorvin D. Leis, Co.

Dorvin D. Leis Co, Inc. provided turn-key Design-Build mechanical services to Maui's first Wound Care Center. Their Design-Build scope required strategic preconstruction and installation coordination to overcome many scheduling and structural challenges. By leveraging BIM Technology and innovative prefabrication strategies to modularize and manufacture the overhead mechanical infrastructure offsite, DDL’s execution of the project decreased installation time and enhanced jobsite safety while meeting the stringent health care codes, standards, and budget.

Command And Control Facility (C2F) Complex Phase 3

Koga Engineering & Construction

The third and final phase of the Command and Control Facility campus at Fort Shafter included foundations and infrastructure for three buildings over 13 acres and a 25-foot deep sewer pump station. Koga's commitment to quality, integrity, teamwork and safety pushed through the multitude of challenges brought on by tight security, site conditions and existing utilities to successfully complete this project on schedule.

Mililani I Solar

Moss & Associates, LLC

Mililani I involved the construction of a 50 MW DC/39 MW AC PV field with a 156 MWh battery storage system providing power to over 15,500 O'ahu homes. Having never been built on this scale, Moss was stepping into uncharted territory. Mililani I not only had the largest battery storage ever constructed, but it also demanded seamless commissioning of a project never before seen. Completed on time, Moss set the standard for solar construction going forward.

StarCom Builders, Inc.

A concerted effort by Department of Education, Ke'elikolani Middle School, Gordian, Bowers + Kubota, StarCom Builders, Inc., and their subcontractors helped make this assignment to create a positive learning environment for AtPromise Youths come to a reality. The Alternative Learning Program helps these youths grow, overcome challenges, and rise above adversity to succeed. The need for an open, safe place was a priority for StarCom Builders and their subcontractors. Schedules were adjusted and the assignment was successfully accomplished.

Swinerton

Waikiki Market by Food Pantry, Ltd. is a new two-story, 32,000-square-foot dining and shopping destination. Located on the first and second levels of the new Lilia Waikiki tower, it celebrates Hawaii's diverse food culture. It features two restaurants, four fresh food prep stations, and an open-air bar. Waikiki's only full-service, locally-owned grocery store features seafood and meat departments, a fresh produce section, and a large, curated selection of local specialty foods.

Bank of Hawaii-Kahala Branch

Ralph S. Inouye Co.

The replacement of Bank of Hawaii's iconic 54-year-old Kahala branch presented a welcome challenge to the Ralph S. Inouye (RSI) team to fulfill the bank's vision of a "Branch of Tomorrow" – bridging technological conveniences with excellent customer service and a sense of place. The Bank of Hawaii team collaborated closely with RSI, calling upon their skills and experience to execute this high-profile project in one of Honolulu's busiest malls, through pandemic disruptions, design changes and new HVAC technology.

Kōʻula at Ward Village

Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company

Kōʻula is a 41-story mixed-use development featuring 942,000 square feet of built area, including the residential tower, the massive podium containing residential and guest units, common areas, amenity spaces, retail space, mechanical and support space, and six stories of above-grade parking. The tower's sculpted 400- foot-tall exterior columns (wallumns) create the tower's graceful presence within Ward Village. The wallumn design plays with light and shadow, suggesting the movement of grasses and red sugar cane.
